Why Ive Stopped Shopping

When I started blogging in 2018 I honestly thought I knew fashion and I knew what suited me, now looking back the looks I created were miles away from what I want to wear today. I think I played it safe in some areas and went OTT in others which from a styling/outfit perspective was very confusing for me and maybe for my followers. Also my rainbow of a wardrobe sometimes makes no sense as I feel I brought what I loved instead of what would go with what I already had.

Conscious Sustainable Fashion

As the world and fashion industry becomes way more aware of the issues with ‘Throw away fashion’ and what it’s doing to our eco system I myself am trying to think of what I can do to ‘save the planet’ or simply stop me from spending. Im trying not to buy to much newness and instead rework what I already have and if I do buy something new I want it to be pieces ill have in my wardrobe for the foreseeable future.
I brought a black zara suit jacket for my last post ‘my worlds been turned upside down’ and i’ve already worn it at least 10 times so I can see it being a piece ill be styling a different way for a blog post in the very near future. With my nan passing a few weeks ago my mood and mind has been elsewhere making me not want to shop which is so unlike me. Its also made me think how quickly i’m rushing to buy into new trends instead of looking at what I have. Usually i’ll be on ASOS ordering a bulk load on Klarna app (a free ordering system which is absolutely lethal) probably hoping those new clothes would give me the drive to style myself a new way. I now know buying those clothes was just a lazy alternative to reworking what I already own.

Why im falling back in love with my wardrobe

Everything i’m wearing in these pictures is what was already in my wardrobe I didn’t buy anything new, I think the oldest item i’m wearing is the black body from HM Conscious Sustainable Collection which I brought around 3 years ago. Although its slightly tighter (hello mid 30s) and I have to wear a new kinda bra whereby the top of the bra has a sheer layer to give my look a more modest touch. It’s one of those pieces that was made so well and I think that’s due to the fact it comes from the conscious collection at HM where style and longevity is top on the designers list. I also have learnt that body’s in general suit my shape as I have a pretty long torso and if you do too opting for a body will eliminate your top rising up and not staying tucked in your trouser which is one of my pet hates!

So if you are heading out shopping this week I think you ultimately need to ask yourself the below questions::

  • “does this suit me?”

  • “am I just buying it just because its fashionable?”

  • “do I truly love it?”

  • “If its expensive is it worth the money?”

You don’t have to follow my lead and if you need a whole new winter wardrobe i’m the biggest shopper out there and will probably encourage you but I just think its really important to ask yourself why your shopping and what your shopping for. I’ve also got into the habit of selling what I have, in giving away my old clothes to charity shops or selling online Im loving the idea that those items are on there way to a new home for someone else to enjoy….
